Mixed media with custom sound

“This installation was inspired by a moment when I sat crocheting loops of flax string under a lamp. I noticed the wonderful tangle of linear shadows cast on the floor. I decided to try hanging a circle of glass with string on top of it with a light above. Hung on a monofilament from the ceiling, the circles move a little as people pass by. The space needed sound to echo the feelings of the circles. I composed a score of sounds made by striking round objects – a brass bowl, cymbals, a drum, a round vibrating tube of metal, and a rain stick. I am grateful to Janet Youngblood who helped play these sounds for the recording.”
