Ghost Elms - An Installation

The stately Elm trees that arched the brick paved streets of my Illinois childhood were disimated by the Dutch Elm disease that swept through the middle west and east in the 1950s . The trees are all gone.

Trees live in our memories and in the balck and white photographsof another time. The slow process of knitting these ghost trees of hand spun flax string reminded me of a quiet street with a house on the corner and a swing in the yard.
